Steel Mesh Reinforced PE Pipe

A welded steel wire skeleton between two PE layers — PE chemistry at pressures plain PE100 cannot reach.

A steel wire mesh is wound into a skeleton and encased in polyethylene, inside and out. The steel carries the hoop load, so the pipe holds pressure classes up to PN35 — well beyond the PN25 ceiling of plain PE100 — while the bore and the outer surface stay polyethylene, with the corrosion resistance and the smooth wall that comes with it.

Because the reinforcement is bonded through the wall rather than laminated on, the layers do not peel. Axial strength is high enough for long buried runs, and joints are made with electrofusion couplers that melt the pipe's outer PE layer into the fitting — the same procedure your crews already use on PE100.

Frequently asked questions

Why choose this over plain PE100?
Pressure. Plain PE100 tops out at PN25, and getting there at large diameters means a very thick wall and a heavy, expensive pipe. The steel skeleton carries the hoop load instead, so PN35 is available and the wall stays thinner. If your duty is under PN16, plain PE100 is usually the cheaper answer.
Can it be butt fused like PE100?
No. The steel skeleton runs through the wall, so a butt weld would fuse plastic across a steel face and leave a weak joint. Jointing is by electrofusion coupler, which melts only the outer PE layer into the fitting. Budget for couplers at every joint when you compare prices against plain PE.
